Letter from Archbishop Diarmuid Martin

This week we have a letter from the Archbishop concerning Crosscare:

My Dear People and Priests,

Each day and each night of the year Crosscare, the Diocesan social Care Agency, in very practical ways puts faith into action and brings Christian love to people who are vulnerable, in need and socially isolated. Crosscare, through its staff and many volunteers serves Young People, Families, Communities, people who are homeless, people with disabilities, emigrants, immigrants, travellers and carers.

Crosscare aims to redress the harsh consequences of poverty, disadvantage and social exclusion in their familiar and newer expressions. Through its various services, Crosscare enables people to realise their dignity as children of God, to the fullest extent possible.

‘Every person is created in the image and likeness of God,’ is the inspiration for Crosscare’s actions and programmes and its commitment the highest standards in its facilities care programmes and support. The quality of the services it provides is recognised by the Statutory Authorities from whom Crosscare receives much of its finances. However, in these times, as the needs grow, this support is declining.

I thank you, the people of the Archdiocese for supporting the work of Crosscare each year, support which is now needed more than ever, enabling Crosscare to be a social care agency of which we can be proud. I appeal to your compassion and generosity in giving what you can to the collection for Crosscare, which takes the place of the Share Collection, at all Masses this weekend.

Wishing you God’s blessing,

+ Diarmuid Martin
Archbishop of Dublin
