Vocations Sunday

Welcome everyone to our Mass for the 4th Sunday of Easter. Today is Vocations Sunday throughout the worldwide church and an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the call we all received at Baptism to be followers of Jesus Christ. There was a time when the word vocation was reserved for those who were called to the religious life and priesthood but now our understanding is that all of us have a vocation through our Baptism. Many people have been drawn to exercise a ministry in the church as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Ministers of the Word, of Welcome, Funeral Team, Music, Liturgical Art, Altar floral arrangements, PPC, Finance etc. This parish is especially good at answering the Lord’s call and we give thanks for that great grace. We still also need priests and religious so it important that we continually encourage men and women to offer themselves to these forms of ministry. Today we have the annual collection for the support of the Dublin Seminarians studying in Maynooth. Please be as generous as you can but also to keep them in your prayers.

We congratulate the boys and girls who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday and Friday last, and their parents, guardians and teachers who prepared them so well. Our thanks go to Msgr Lorcan O’Brien who officiated and to the Parish Faith Friends who visited all the family homes during the year.
