Pastor's Desk: 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

cswWelcome everyone to our celebrations on this the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. From today till next Sunday we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week in every parish in Ireland. The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2013 is ‘Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News’. Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity for all members of the parish to recognise the work and contribution to the life of the parish that comes to us from our parish schools. Quite uniquely, we have five Catholic schools here in Holy Trinity and each one of them consists of a Board of Management made up of volunteers, a dedicated Principal, committed and professional teachers, ancillary staff members, secretaries and of course girls and boys along with their parents and guardians who all make up the school community. Over the coming days each school will put up displays in our church so that we can get a sense of the vibrant life in the school and also the work of catechesis or education in the Faith that each of them provide for our children.

One of the very nice suggestions for Catholic Schools Week is devoting a day to Grandparents. Children learn a lot from their Grandparents and in particular they receive a tremendous amount of love from them and Grandparents Day is a chance for the boys and girls to say thank you and remember them in prayer.

Do take the opportunity this week to thank our schools for the work they do, even if your children have long left primary school. With a lot of change being suggested by the Government in relation to how schools are run, our parish should not take having Catholic schools available to us for granted.
