Pastor's Desk: 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Posted 2nd November 2013 in Pastor's Desk

Welcome Fr. Karl & Linda!

Today our parish welcomes amongst us our new curate, Fr. Karl Schray, all the way from the US along with his housekeeper Linda Wingerath. We hope that they will both be very happy in Holy Trinity as they make their home here. I asked Fr. Karl to write a brief bio which is included below. I know we will give them both a real Céad Míle Fáilte.
Fr. Eoin

Hello Holy Trinity Parishioners,

I am Fr. Karl Schray, born August 1939 in Portland, Oregon, USA. I have been a priest for 48 years in the Archdiocese of Portland. I recently retired and asked my Archbishop if I could serve in Ireland in appreciation for all the Irish priests who came to America. Archbishop Martin graciously welcomed me.

For 6 years I taught in a Catholic high school and eventually was pastor in 3 parishes in southern Oregon. I have helped give Cursillo and Marriage Encounter Retreats for the last 35 years. For the last 25 years I have lived on the Oregon coast with weather and scenic beauty very much like Donaghmede.

My parents have passed on to heaven; my father came from Germany when he was 19 years old and my mother was born in Oregon - her great-grandmother was a Doherty, so I have a little Irish in me. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister, and 15 nieces and nephews (most of whom I have married and also baptized their children)!

I love being a priest and celebrating the Sacraments and preaching and teaching the Word of God. Experiencing the people and culture of Ireland will be an enriching adventure. Linda Wingerath, my assistant/housekeeper will share in this adventure. We hope to explore more of your beautiful country which we saw for the first time in August. We look forward to meeting each of you.

Fr. Karl
