Pastor's Desk: 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Catholic Schools WeekWelcome everyone. We begin celebrating Catholic Schools Week today and the week is an opportunity to reflect on the contribution Catholic Schools make to our parish and to our country. As a Lay School Chaplain put it: “I feel strongly that in a society where the value of the Catholic ethos in schools is being constantly called into question it is vital that we become vocal about the huge contribution that Catholic schools have made and continue to make to the development of Irish society, which is immersed in gospel values. Catholic Schools Week is a celebration of this contribution and a validation of what we are trying to achieve in our schools across the country.” Lizzie Harrison, Chaplain, Loreto College, Crumlin.

In this parish we have 5 Catholic Primary Schools. They are:

  • St. Kevin’s Junior National School
  • Naomh Cholmcille Senior National School
  • Scoil Bhríde Junior National School
  • Holy Trinity Senior National School
  • St. Francis of Assisi Primary School Belmayne (which is a “vertical” school going from infants to sixth class)

We are very lucky to have well-run schools with professional and dedicated teachers. For that we need to thank the individual Principals: Nora Hamill, Annette O’Brien, Áine Dillon, Jerry Grogan and Assumpta Kerins. And we also need to acknowledge the voluntary contribution of their respective Boards of Management under the guidance of their Chairpersons. They are the unsung heroes of the Catholic Primary Schools sector and we thank them all today at the 12.30pm Family Mass.

St. Blaise, Monday 3rd February

The feast of St. Blaise will be celebrated Monday week and we will have the traditional Blessing of Throats after the 10.00am morning Mass (before Exposition) and also after the 7.00pm Benediction.
