Pastor's Desk: 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Posted 8th February 2014 in Pastor's Desk

Welcome everyone. The readings this week call on us to be people who make a difference. A society which has Christians in its population should notice them by the actions they carry out for the benefit of others.

candleOn Tuesday evening we will celebrate the Ceremony of Light with the parents & children preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is a very moving ceremony as the child’s lit Baptismal Candle is passed from the parent/guardian to the child, symbolising the passing of the Faith from one generation to the next. A burning candle has to be handed over gently and carefully if the flame is not to be extinguished and the same is true with the Faith we share. The prayers of the parish will be with the families as they pass on the candle and the Faith to a new generation.

In the Gospel, Jesus calls us to be salt of the earth and a light for the people. A person of faith must bring that light, the light of Christ’s values, into every facet of our lives; our home, our work, our social lives and our community. If we don’t, then we are putting our light under a tub and darkness prevails.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

Tuesday is the 11th February and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. To celebrate World Day of the Sick, Fr. Karl and I will administer the Anointing of the Sick to all those who wish to receive it during the 10am Mass.
