Pastor's Desk: Feast of Corpus Christi

Posted 21st June 2014 in Pastor's Desk

corpuschristiToday we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi or the Body & Blood of Christ. To mark this very special feast we will have our Parish Corpus Christi Procession around the grounds of the church after the 12.30pm Family Mass on Sunday and all are welcome to join in. Our adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is because Christ is truly present to us in the Eucharist as he said at the Last Supper, “This is my body, this is my blood”. When we pray before the Blessed Sacrament we are placing ourselves in the company of Jesus and receive strength of faith from that closeness. Each Monday from September to May we have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our church from 10.30am till 7.00pm. It is wonderful to see the number of people who take a moment from their hectic day to pause and pray.

Being close to Jesus in the Eucharist is not a one dimensional relationship. We are called to be in communion with one another as well so that the Eucharist causes us to look outside of our own needs to those of the people around us.

We pray for an increase in Faith for the church in Ireland and that many graces and blessings will flow from our closeness to the Eucharistic, the Body of Christ.
