Pastors Desk: 12th Sunday in O/T

Posted 20th June 2015 in Pastor's Desk

Berkeley California

The tragic event in Berkeley California dominates our minds this Sunday as we gather to celebrate the Eucharist. The death of six young people at the threshold of their adult lives is unbearable. We look at them and think of our own family who could just as easily have been part of that group attending a twenty-first birthday party. At all our Masses this Sunday we will pray for the young deceased and their families, and for those who are critically injured in hospital at this time. The next few days will be harrowing for our city and diocese as we begin the process of laying them to rest. May their souls, and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Laudato Si

Pope Francis has published his second Encyclical “Laudato Si” which deals with the reality of climate change and the effects on our planet. The Holy Father reminds us that we are merely stewards of God’s creation and our actions must be for the betterment of the environment and also the poor countries who suffer the most from the greed of the developed world. Please take the time to read what the Holy Father has to say in his Encyclical. You can read it in full here.
