Pastor's Desk: Second Sunday of Advent

On this Second Sunday of Advent the central character of our Readings is John the Baptist. It is his role to prepare the way for the Lord. He was very direct in his preaching and teaching, telling people how they needed to change the direction their lives were heading in if they wished to be pleasing to God. It was this directness that was eventually to lead to his imprisonment and death.

Advent is a season of preparing for the Lord in our own lives too. Families are busy at this time of year putting up the Christmas decorations, buying presents, making plans for the big day itself and the reason we are doing all of these things is because Jesus, the Son of God, was born on Christmas Day. Over the coming week why not spend a few moments of your day praying about that and welcoming Jesus into your heart and life.

Parish Carol Service

Next Sunday at 5.00pm we will celebrate the Parish Carol Service in the church in the company of the Holy Trinity Choir and the boys and girls from the Parish Schools. It will be a lovely hour of singing your favourite Christmas Carols and a great way of getting into the festive spirit. Please make sure to come along and enjoy the evening. I know that a great amount of hours and work have been put in by the Choir and the schools in preparation for the Service so do put it in your diary!

Gerard Reilly to receive Acolyte Ministry

The Parish community congratulates Gerard Reilly who has been called by the Archbishop to receive the Ministry of Acolyte (Minister of the Eucharist) next Sunday in Dundrum Parish along with his Classmates. This is the second Ministry required before Gerard can be ordained a Permanent Deacon during the summer.

Have a great week
Fr. Eoin
