Pastor’s Desk 13th December 2020 - Third Sunday of Advent/B

3rd-sunday-of-advent2Today is called ‘Gaudete Sunday’ to remind us that we are preparing for a very joyful occasion for the birth of Jesus. On our Advent wreath we light the rose-coloured candle, and the Priest wears the rose-coloured Chasuble or vestment.

The common theme of the scripture readings today is one of Joy and encouragement. They urge us to make the preparations required of us as we await the birth of Jesus into our hearts and lives. It is Jesus coming, in the past, present and future that is the reason for our rejoicing.

This year we must factor another aspect of ‘preparation’ for our celebration of Christmas. Who would have thought or imagined at the beginning of the year that the events and lockdowns of the last 9 months would have had such a lasting effect on our lives, how we live and worship?

Masses with large attendances are still not permitted so we have adapted our usual celebration of Christmas eve and Christmas day masses to comply with the current Level 3 restrictions which permits just 50 people to attend mass at any one time.

Last week Archbishop Martin suggested that we choose one of the twelve days of Christmas as the day we come to church and attend mass. We have discussed at great length how we can implement this here in Holy Trinity and St. Paul’s.

We believe that tickets are the best and fairest option available to everyone. The tickets, which are limited to two people per household or bubble, will be available in the coming week and details will be posted on the website over the weekend. All masses are streamed online.

We realise these arrangements will disappoint many but ask for your understanding while we all continue to keep safe during this ongoing pandemic.
